WWE Considering Major Changes to WWE Network

During today’s Q4 earnings call, WWE CEO & Chairman Vince McMahon announced that the company is considering making big changes to the company’s OTT streaming service. McMahon said the company could see a significant revenue increase should they go forward with the potential plan, which he called “transformative.”

No details were disclosed other than the possibility that WWE may begin collecting rights fees for certain events (Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, etc.) or they may explore a completely different distribution model altogether.

“There’s no better time as of right now to exercise the selling of our rights,” he said.

According to the company’s earnings report, as of the fourth quarter of 2019, WWE Network had 1.43 million subscribers worldwide. That’s down 10% from the third quarter of 2019, while also dropping $15 million in revenue. Company projections see a slight increase to 1.47 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2020.
